Economic Analysis of Policies to Deal with the Water Crisis in Iran Using the System Dynamics Method

Abstract
background and Aims: The water crisis, as one of the most important challenges of the present age, requires serious attention and basic measures to ensure the sustainability of water resources and future security. Therefore, the purpose of this research is the economic analysis of the factors affecting the water crisis with the approach of system dynamics.
Method and Material: The model of this study is consistent with the hydrological cycle of water and in line with the effective representation of the security of water resources in the country. Surface water sources, underground water sources, dams and population are considered as accumulation variables of the model. The time period is the 20-year horizon of 1416-1396. The effect of factors affecting the water crisis under 5 scenarios on the security of water resources was investigated and finally the economic analysis related to each one was presented.
Ethical Considerations: In present study, the principles of text originality, honesty and trustworthiness have been observed.
Findings: The security situation of water resources in the country will have a downward trend if the current situation continues.
Conclusion: Policies to deal with the water crisis have important effects on the economy. Improving the efficiency of using resources and managing water resources can reduce the continuation of the water crisis and maintain economic stability. Therefore, water crisis policies should be implemented and followed up by considering different effects in order to lead to favorable results in water resource management and maintaining economic stability.
